I have to correct you on one point, Ely is in Cambridgeshire not Suffolk.<br /><br />The memorial is indeed affixed to the wall, you can see it just outside of the Lady Chapel if my memory serves me right. In the 1989 BBC adaptation they actually film inside the cathedral and they use the actual memorial tablet, you can see it with Hatty and Tom speaking beneath it.<br /><br />It was the favourite book of my childhood. I utterly adored it. It became part of the furniture of my mind, if I go into a garden I often find myself comparing it unconsciously to the Midnight Garden, and even judging friendships to Tom and Hatty&#39;s.Nihilanthnoreply@blogger.com
